J’s story
A person from our health and wellbeing programme.
When J first heard about Green Light Trust, she was in a tough place. Life had been overwhelming, and even the thought of joining a group made her anxious.
“I’d had an exceptionally difficult year,” she says. “I was struggling emotionally, and the idea of starting something new filled me with fear. I kept thinking, ‘You’re going to mess this up. You can’t do this.’”
But J showed up. It wasn’t easy, especially at first. She battled anxiety and self-doubt every step of the way. Slowly though, things began to change.
“By the second time I joined, my confidence started to build. I could take part more, and I began to feel the benefit. Now, I look forward to it, I know how much better I’ll feel afterwards.”
That change has rippled out into her everyday life. She’s started new activities, feels more motivated at home, and is noticeably happier. “As part of my therapy, I keep a daily wellbeing score and the days I’m with Green Light Trust are always when I feel happiest.”
One small moment stands out. “I made a spatula. That might not sound like much, but for me, it was proof I could do something I never thought I could. I’m not a failure.”
She hopes to continue taking part, growing her confidence and wellbeing step by step. Her message to others is simple:
“If all you manage is turning up, you’ve already achieved something. Give yourself time – things do get better.”
