B’s story

A young person from our primary children’s programme.

B, a 9-year-old with ASD, was referred to us after struggling in school, where he was at risk of permanent exclusion. He had trouble engaging with the curriculum, following instructions, and managing his behaviour, often becoming aggressive.

When B joined us, he quickly began to show improvement and never missed a session. He learned to listen and follow instructions, and he engaged better with both peers and adults. Over time, he developed the ability to talk about his feelings and recognise emotions. B also became more self-controlled, managing difficult situations by either walking away or talking through conflicts.

Even during a period of school exclusion, B remained engaged with us. He continued to show steady progress, demonstrating self-control, taking turns, and supporting others. His parents noticed that he started helping more at home, such as clearing up after meals.

B made huge progress and we worked with his parents to find suitable schooling, where B is now thriving.

B’s story highlights how we helped him develop important skills and gave him the support needed to succeed in a new environment.
