Now available to book at RSPB Strumpshaw Fen, our CYP courses begin September 2024. Specifically designed for children/young people who are non-attenders, on limited timetables, have anxiety or additional needs, are neurodiverse, home schooled or have EHCP’s.
The woodlands are rich with inspiration and the resources to help our young people improve their confidence, well-being and self-esteem resulting in increased resilience, emotional and self-regulation skills.
The staff at GLT are amazing. They have given my daughter a safe, caring, and fun environment in which she can heal and grow. Her confidence and self-esteem have greatly improved allowing her to become the person that she is meant to be

How does it work?
Our Natural Alternative programme will run one day per week during term time from our NEW Children and Young People’s site at RSPB Strumpshaw Fen. Each child/young person is placed in one of the above groups based on their individual needs which is reviewed termly. The days are run by a minimum of two trained, experienced Green Light Trust facilitators and are child-led as there are no demands or ‘must dos’ in our sessions.
What is a normal day?
We may start with a short walk, light a campfire and have hot chocolate and crumpets for breakfast. We get involved in woodland management tasks, green woodworking, campfire cooking, natural crafts and nature connection activities. The rest of the day could include playing games, learning safe tool use, whittling spoons, learning to identify insects, fauna and flora, foraging for wild plants or building tree houses.
