Cyber Security Incident Affecting Beacon CRM

Green Light Trust has been informed of a cyber security incident affecting Beacon CRM, a third party system used to manage information and communications.

Beacon notified customers on 3 August 2026 that it had experienced unauthorised access to its systems. Following investigation by external cyber security specialists, Beacon confirmed that copies of database backups were likely downloaded by an unauthorised third party. Beacon has advised customers to assume that all data stored within the system may have been accessed.

At present there is no evidence that personal information has been published, misused, or shared on the dark web. No ransom demand has been received.

Green Light Trust is assigning an abundance of caution to this issue by assuming that information held within its Beacon CRM system may have been impacted. This information may include contact details, records of engagement with Green Light Trust, participation in programmes and related correspondence. For some individuals, this may also include information relating to health, wellbeing, or personal circumstances where this was required to support service delivery.  Green Light Trust does not store any credit cards or payment details on Beacon and therefore they have not been compromised.

Green Light Trust has reported the matter to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the Charities Commission and is working closely with Beacon while investigations continue.

Anyone who has engaged with Green Light Trust is encouraged to remain vigilant for unexpected emails, text messages, telephone calls or requests for personal information. Individuals should verify the identity of anyone claiming to represent an organisation before sharing personal information. We are directly contacting individuals who attend / or have attended our programmes or the referral organisation for those participants.

Protecting the privacy and security of the people who support and engage with Green Light Trust is extremely important to us. We apologise for any concern this incident may cause and will provide further updates if our understanding of the incident changes.

Experience of being a trustee is not required, but we are looking for individuals who can demonstrate the skills and behaviours required in a trustee role.

We are particularly interested in people who have knowledge of finance, marketing/fundraising, human resources or environmental/forestry stewardship.
