We are excited to welcome Jon Cree to Lawshall to run this 3 day training workshop.

John has been a training co-ordinator and Programme Manager at Bishops Wood Centre in Worcestershire for the last 20 years; working with youth groups and groups of young people with specific needs, in the outdoors for almost 30 years.

This course is aimed at any Educator who feels they want to engage and work with students in the outdoors who may be reluctant learners (of any age).

The course is a 3 day OCN accredited course* taking place in the woodland, and will include real life case studies, and outdoor activities and ideas that can be used in a natural setting.

*the accredited course is worth 3 credits and awarded through OCNWM

*You can chose whether to be accredited or not. Contact us if you prefer to do the unaccredited course (£295 instead of £350)

We will look at:

  • What do behaviours communicate?
  • What behaviour challenges us as facilitators and how do we manage our own responses?
  • Behavioural theories and approaches examining how these work in specific contexts.
  • A ‘needs – based’ approach and what needs the outdoors satisfy.
  • How to work with various ‘needs’ from neuro-typical through to various ‘attachment’ needs, including ASD, sensory attachments and more.
  • ‘Neural development’ - the most recent research and how this affects behaviour, in particular the effects of higher and lower order thinking.
  • ‘Causes of certain behaviours’. Models for working with behaviour - the 3C’s, non violent communication and the pros and cons of rewards and sanctions.
  • ‘Ways of working with behaviours’ - interventions and de-escalation in the outdoors . How do we calm in order to get into the rest, digest, pro-social and learning brain?
  • Motivating our learners in order to create a community of learning.
  • ‘Transferring’ behavioural strategies from the outdoors to everyday life in educational settings and home.
  • Self-care - Looking after ourselves.
