Green Light Trust's 1st Community-owned WildSpace
Forest for Our Children is used by schools and the local community as an educational and recreational area. We are continually working with the local community to increase biodiversity in the area and build new habitats for wildlife.
Local people have been involved with Forest for Our Children at every stage:
- Crooked Wood was planted on land partly donated by a local landowner
- The community helped to raise money to acquire the rest of the land through events like woodland barbeques and parish walks.
- A village Steering group meet regularly to manage and oversee the project.
The project was planted over 18 years ago and is based at the rear of The Foundry, Lawshall. It is 9.2 ha of mixed native woodland with a pond, willow maize and traditional Papua New Guinea, Hauswin (traditional meeting house) on top of a mound.
People can join in the regular work activity sessions which take place on:
Midweek working party – first Thursday of every month from 9:30 to 12:30.
Weekend working party – last Sunday of every month except December from 9:30 to 12:30.
