Suffolk - CW: Community-owned WildSpaces

The journey so far...

What are Community-owned WildSpaces?

Community-owned WildSpaces, (CWs) are areas of natural beauty which are owned and maintained by a group of local people.  With Green Light Trust's support communities have been been able to create their own woodlands and other wild spaces by acquiring land, planting trees and shrubs, and building habitats for wildlife.

The picture of the map shows the locations of our CW projects across East Anglia.

How do WildSpace projects work?

In the past, Green Light Trust had funding to support the creation of new projects. Environmental Education Leaders would help kick start projects, provide experitise and advice and inspiration to get groups on their way.  Following a 3 year mentoring period, these projects would gradually develop and then become self-sustaining through the leadership of a steering group, but continue to benefit from a range of services and on-going training provided by the Trust.

We are currently only funded to allow the support of the existing 60 projects in an advisory capacity, but we continue to seek new sources of funding that would be appropriate for this area of our work.

If you are a Trust or organisation that feels they would like to find out more about this area of our work and perhaps help with providing future funding support, then do please contact us on the main office number.
