Suffolk is where it all began! Golden Wood, which adjoins our Foundry offices and training rooms, was the very first of our now, 60 Community-owned WildSpace projects. The wood in Golden Wood is called ‘Forest of Our Children’ and is now successfully managed by the members of the local Steering group in the village with regular work activity sessions and events run; to keep this important wood in a thriving condition.
With Frithy Wood and Crooked Wood we now manage 54 acres of woodland and a small horticultural area at our base in Lawshall.
Not surprisingly this has facilitated a busy calendar of activity across the western area of Suffolk with one or more of our 9 Greener Lives educational programmes, running most days.
Our Community-owned Wildspace projects spread out from Lawshall and have developed over the years into a network of 61 sites, spread across the County.
In 2013 we started a survey of the state of health of all our CW projects and are pleased that initial findings report the success they are still having. Most are still active within their communities, involved with local schools and some have increased their landholdings.
In our Ipswich section you will be able to read more about our new work with IBC (Ipswich Borough Council) and the Friends of Holy Wells Park on a major Heritage Lottery Founded project to restore the historic park landscape.
Our Environmental Education team work across the County at various locations including schools, wild spaces and parks.
