A leadership course for professionals, independents and those working with groups of children/young people with the aim of planning, co-ordinating and delivering Forest School programmes.
Langley Preparatory School at Taverham Hall is one of the top independent schools in Norfolk for boys and girls aged 2 – 13, set in 100 acres of stunning parkland. It has excellent facilities and an unprecedented approach to outdoor learning.
Rated ‘Excellent’ by ISI inspectors, the School is known for its nurturing personalised learning environment and outstanding pastoral care.
The first school in Norfolk to receive the prestigious FSA Recognised Forest School Provider award, it offers a real focus on Growth Mindset and the development of independent empowered learners with key life skills for the 21st century.
Green Light Trust have trained a number of Langley Preparatory School staff members over the years to qualify as Forest School Level 3 practitioners.
GLT are delighted to be running Forest School training for 2019 at this beautiful setting.
The Level 3 is equivalent to an A-Level and you should be prepared for a very full and intense experience. The course consists of 10 tutor-led days, plus a 16 hour Outdoor First Aid weekend. There is an additional one day observation and mentoring visit by the tutor to your site.
Approximately one-third of the course consists of contact time with other students and the tutors. The remaining hours are for students to undertake self-directed and independent study. During the course you will complete a Practical Workbook that documents your learning on risk assessment, safe tool use, building shelters, how to light and cook safely over a fire and the ecology of woodlands. You will be required to write essays on child development and learning and behaviour, as well as conduct research in order to create a 3 year Management Plan and an Environmental Impact Assessment for your proposed Forest School site. You will also be required to create and submit a working Forest School file that includes a Guidebook for Helpers, information for parents and some policy documents.
Once all of the above elements are completed you will plan a Forest School programme and run a 6 session programme which will have to be documented in detail. A member of Green Light’s tutor team will attend one of these 6 sessions to assess your practice and delivery.
Advice and support for all of the coursework will be given at the appropriate times.
On successful completion of the coursework, students should receive certification and be qualified as a Forest School Practitioner within 12 months of starting the course. All our courses are accredited by Open College Network West Midlands and Green Light Trust is an OCN Recognised Centre.
