Question : When does the Green Light's education team need to add the following to its presentation kit:A pineapple, a coconut some wet wipes and a giant 10m x 10m blue silk cloth?
Answer: When it visits a school for pupils with severe learning difficulties.

In March, presenters Gill and Helen visited Yellow Class at Heathside School in Ipswich.

"The pupils were invited to join us in a simple story taking them on a journey up the Sepik. Our aim was to engage the pupils' attention and stimulate their desire to communicate by providing a series of sensory stimuli. We invited them to experience 'rainforest' at a level appropriate to their level of understanding. The pupils were enveloped by the blue river cloth while wet branches moved across the tops of their heads. Some chose to wear grass skirts or put objects in bilums, shake shell jewellery or run their hands through cassowary feathers. They focused on the vibrant colours of a bird of paradise. To celebrate the end of the journey we cracked open a coconut. Some drank the milk, others sampled the flesh. Some explored the hard, hairy shell. Everyone enjoyed the sticky sweetness of a fresh pineapple. Then it was back to Yellow classroom and the wet wipes!'

Comments from teachers:
