What are Forest Schools?
Based on a highly successful Scandinavian education programme, Forest Schools are woodland-based classrooms which give children the opportunity to learn outdoors and explore the environment.
Forest Schools are run by qualified practitioners to enhance mainstream education, by focussing on the emotional, social and behavioural development of pupils. Sessions are tailored for pupils of all ages and abilities. Pupils take part in child-centred and then child-led activities where they experience successully taking small risks, being responsible and taking care of each other. The key benefits for pupils attending Forest Schools include:
- Learning new social skills
- Developing a love of the natural world
- Learning physical skills and keeping fit
- Understanding when to take risks and when to take responsibility
We also have a wide range of resources if you're interested in learning more about outdoor education.
