Benefits for Children

Here are some of the lasting benefits for children who take part in our outdoor learning and environmental education programmes:

Inclusive and flexible sessions

Our experienced leaders know when to encourage children and push them forward and when to take a step back - getting the most from every child and keeping them motivated and engaged.

Most of our sessions can be tailored to the meet the age and ability of pupils and complement the National Curriculum. Many of our sessions already forge strong links with Citizenship, Literacy, Science, PSHE and Geography.

Healthy body and mind

Working outdoors is the ideal way for children to develop their practical and physical skills, while keeping fit and healthy.

Woodlands and wild spaces provide a relaxed yet stimulating environment where children naturally begin independent learning. Working as a group in the outdoors builds social skills and confidence - children discover when it's appropriate to take responsibility, when it's appropriate to take risks and when to look out for the safety of themselves and others.

Integration and the community

Our projects build lasting relationships between local people, schools, businesses and nature. This provides children with in-school and extra curricular activities to take part in, as well as preparing them for the world of work and giving them the opportunity to continue with their project when they leave school.

There are big benefits for the community too. Through their involvement with community projects, children develop a love and respect for their natural surroundings - communities who work with us often see a decline in negative behaviour like littering and vandalism.

Global awareness

As well as a local connection between schools and communities, we also try to build international links and exchanges where possible. This can prove to be an invaluable source of knowledge and inspiration for all involved, and shows children how their actions can have an impact in other parts of the world.
